Wedding Photography Sussex

Quality photography training is a huge passion of mine.

Professional Photography Training

With the advent of digital capture the wedding photography industry has become vastly over saturated and is at breaking point. The huge growth in numbers becoming wedding photographers as a side line has created a situation where there are so many folks competing for the same number of weddings, that inevitably a price war has seen rates nose dive. This means that it is very hard to make a viable income from wedding photography alone. Most enter the business with no real wedding photography training which just adds to the problem. As with most things in life you tend to get what you pay for. There are “photography trainers” and PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY TRAINERS who can walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

Unlike so many others offering photography training, i still generate 100% of my family income from my business and still shoot weddings and other commissions all year round. Now in the 17th year of my professional photography career, i have been privileged to photograph in excess of 800 weddings, of all sizes and types all over the UK and beyond.

Its been very hard work, a lot of fun and an amazing experience to have been a part of so many couple’s special day.

However, the vast influx of digital SLR carrying newbies has become a huge source of frustration to me as i have seen acceptable standards drop lower and lower. The main reason behind this drop in photographic standards is a lack of basic knowledge. This includes how to to use the tool in the photographer’s hands, the camera, as well as an understanding of how weddings work, and a lack of experience on how to cope in a pressure cooker situation: the wedding day itself!

Worse still, there are a lot of newcomers to the industry who are offering photography training even after just a few months and a handful of weddings into their own careers! They don’t really have the experience or know how to run photography training. Its like the blind leading the blind!

As with most things in life, there is no substitute for experience. A passion and of course talent are important, but all the love for photography in the world won’t make any difference if you don’t have a sound knowledge of the basics of shooting and building a business!

I started out slowly, working with some on of the top guys in the industry at the time. I was a sponge, absorbing as much information as these guys could give me. Passionately studying, learning and practising before i was let loose on a couple’s wedding. These days far too many folks pick up a DSLR and become wedding photographers, with very little idea about what to do next. Not only is it very unfair to practise on someone’s wedding day, where there are no second chances, its just plain crazy.

With no training, no experience and no real idea as a professional photographer you are being unfair to yourself, the profession and our clients. This is just another nail in the coffin of your business aspirations before you get going.

Here’s what a few very kind folks have had to say about my wedding photography training.

Peter, I just wanted to email and say thank you for the course on Saturday at Park Cameras. You have opened my eyes a lot more to the ins and outs of wedding photography and also made me realise I have a lot of work to do before I start doing weddings myself.

Thanks again for your advice.

Kindest Regards

Stuart Hall

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the great wedding photography workshop, you have refreshed my enthusiasm and drive to swap my IT career for a photography career!!

Also if you ever need a bag man or someone to hold your iPhone for lighting purposes, I would love to help out on one of your shoots..

Thanks again.

Hi Peter

Firstly thanks for a great day yesterday. I found your information to be very useful in my dream to one day work for myself doing what I love.

Will you be running any more training days in the future?

 Regards

 Jo Clarke

Peter,

Thank you for putting on a great seminar yesterday.  I found the seminar well composed and very resourceful! So well done. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the seminar to others.

All the best,

 Kind regards,

 Jason Whitfield

Peter,

Many thanks for the workshop yesterday. I am at the very beginning of setting up, and looking to do this in parallel to my day job so knowing that you managed this is great to know.

Again, Many thanks for the informative course. My wife runs a wedding cake business and I even managed to pick up some tips that would help her so I managed to squeeze even more value out of it.

Best Wishes,

Phil McMillan

naomi van aswegen - Hi Peter,

I have been to Park Cameras recently for a 1-1 with Anthony and i remember him recommending you, however I have just come across your website on Google whilst looking for photography courses.

I have been offering my photography services locally for around 6 months now and it has been going really well, however I am really looking to move to the next level and ideally give up my day job in the next 6 months or so. I am looking for someone to help me progress my photography and learn more, I do want to learn how to take better photos.

What sort of services do you provide?

Naomi
